Monday 26th January – Shoot Day

The day started off full of stress as I still had not found any photographic paper to print my pictures on and time was very short until we had to leave to Leith Hill. At the last minute I printed out all the pictures and we collected al our stuff for our shoot. When we arrived on location our actor Russell was waiting by a window in the house. Preparing for the shoot was a very long process. I had to cut out near to 30 photographs whilst the rest of my group set up lights and props ready to film. When we finally got to start filming we took to our roles. I was sound technician for the day. First we started by doing a long shot of the whole dark room scene in which we see the photographer developing pictures. Once they have developed on his line he notices a dark line on one of the pictures. Looking through them all he notices that there is a line on every picture and they connect into a butterfly. To create the dark room we clipped a red gel sheet over a redhead video light which gave the instantly recognizable red light of a dark room.To create more of an idea of the character we placed loads of african tribal style wooden statues and masks to show that he was traveled photographer and that he enjoyed other cultures etc. We did multiple take of him walking in and developing pictures, pinning the pictures to the line and realising the lines on his photo's. We used long-shots, mid-shots, close-ups, extreme close-ups and canted some of our takes so that we could have as many versions to edit from. When we got to our forest scene, a few of us had to leave, which meant that Kaleem was left to film on his own. In that time he did many imaginative takes of our actor walking in and out of frame taking many pictures of the scenery. When I saw the takes I was surprised that he managed to do such a good job with only himself and our teachers for help and without our input. All in all I was very pleased with how our shoot day went and I feel we got more than enough to edit with and create something imaginitive and hopefully entertaining.
